We came back from the Delta, and stopped at the Vietnam War tunnels. We were shown a bit of a propaganda documentary about a villager killing Americans and known as “American Hero Killer”. As the only American on the tour I was subject to a lot of ridicule, but enjoyed the attention. Between the tunnels, the destruction in Laos, the next day at the war museum, it was clear the Americans fucked the Asians pretty badly, including chemical weapons and torture. I was becoming less and less “proud to be an American”. As soon as I come home, I am going to visit the Deep South, leave logic and reason at the door, drape myself in the American flag, and listen to nonstop country music, while donning a cowboy hat.
